How often has this happened to you? You’re in a hurry, you collect your stuff, rush to the door because you are late. You check your phone. It’s got about 5% juice left. What do you do? Most likely, you just leave, resigned to the fact of no music or videos, no email or Facebook or Whatsapp. Sucks right? We’ve all faced it. So we are pleased to announce the answer to our problems. This astonishing new invention is being claimed as able to restore a dead phone to full charge within half minute.

StoreDot, an Israeli startup company demonstrate the prototype battery pack at the Microsoft Think Next event in Israel a short time ago. Check out a part of the event:

StoreDot is uses bio-organic technology in general, and ‘nano dot’ technology to create this charger. For the moment, as you can see in the video, this is a rather big andclunky device which sticks on to the back of the phone. Also the company says that it does not yet hold sufficient capacity to be usable, but they are working on it.

As we see it, they face 3 problems. Cutting the size down so that it fits inside a phone. Getting the cost down, as at the moment the projected cost comes to about twice as much as a phone charger and finally in spite of these constraints, increasing the battery capacity.

For this they have to raise money, which they already have to the tune of $6.25 million from interested investors, who, incidentally are supposed to include Samsung. StoreDot plans to build their own facilities where they will make these ‘nano dot’ batteries.StoreDot is looking to raise a total of $20 million, which given the potential of this device, seems quite likely.

One of the most heartening things about this ‘nano dot’ tech is that it is bio-organic in nature, and should not add to the pollution that we already have. Another thing we like about it is that it can be used in many down-stream technologies such as memory chips, and cadmium free displays. The only real obstacle, StoreDot says is that this is a radically new technology, and the electronics industry is not quite ready for it yet.

This super powered battery should be available sometime in 2016, and when it happens, it’ll be a godsend to those of us who cannot live without their phones. What do you think?
