panasonic FZ E1Imagine a tablet that you can dunk in five feet of water for 30 minutes, drop from a distance of 10 feet, use in freezing weather wearing the thickest gloves you can find, with a choice of Windows or Android OSes. On top of that weighing only 15 oz. and 1/2 inch thick. Not possible? But it is, and Panasonic has done it.

Panasonic’s Toughpad® FZ series does that and more. There are two models of this 5 inch tablet, the FZ-E1 which has the Windows 8.1 Embedded Hand-held OS and the FZ-X1 running on Android 4.2.2. They are incredibly rugged! It can operate over a temperature range of 140° F to -4° F. It can operate in the rain, and stay underwater for 30 minutes. You can drop it from a height of ten feet without harming it. With this kind of toughness, you can literally throw it into a toolbox, or take it to battle. A tablet as tough as this is meant for mostly outdoors work, and sure enough, the Toughpad®’s display is a rugged toughened glass display that is bright enough to see in the daylight.

In looks, as you can see it looks like a bulky slate and it is thick enough to hold securely with gloves on in the rain. It is designed to work in rain. The hardware running it as good as they come.
