According to a research, people who eat Indian spicy food have less risk from the effects of dementia. The report says that a compound found in turmeric, which is used in almost all curries helps to reduce the risk of diseases like Alzheimer’s. Turmerone spreads the brain stem cells and after which they develop in the form of neurons. In future scientist will be able to treat diseases like stroke and Alzheimer’s in which brain cells are lost.

turmericThe scientists have a detailed studied on the effect of turmerone on the neutral stem cells (NSC) found in the adult brain. The NSC quickly converts into neurons and has a major role in recovery from neurodegenerative diseases. The study says that at a certain concentration the turmerone quickly develops into NSC and then they get matured. In an experiment on rats when the turmerone was injected into the rat it was found that there is an expansion of two regions in the brain the subventricular zone and hippocampus. Both these are present as sites in adult mammalian brain where the new neurons grow.

Dr Laura Phipps, from Alzheimer’s Research United Kingdom, admonished the discoveries ‘are long ways from deciding whether this constituent could assist fight illnesses such as Alzheimer’s.

Aromatic turmeric, for many years, is a subject of study and the two compounds found in turmeric; out of which curcumin an anti-inflammatory agent is used to cure cancer.

turmeric dietIt is yet not clear that the study of this compound turmerone would help in curing diseases like Alzheimer and there is a need to further study the effect of this compound. People will have to wait for some time till the research is completed so that they can use turmeric as a curing agent for dementia. The major cause of Alzheimer’s is the death of brain cells and this research helps in finding that how the death of these cells happens and ways to cure it.

There is need to research more and more on this topic, so that the diseases like dementia can be cured and people suffering from this disease can get rid of it.
