Anabolic Steroids – Are they Healthy?
What are Anabolic Steroids
Anabolic steroids are simply the synthetic versions of the naturally occurring male hormone testosterone. As per a recent statistics report more than 3 million athletes and bodybuilders in the United States alone have used anabolic steroids. A recently published article in magazine Sports Illustrated has stated that 90% of professional athletes have at one time taken some form of illegal performance enhancing drugs. There is no doubt about the fact that they are illegal; however, a debate has been going on over whether or not they are safe.
Hitler used these steroids for the first time to increase aggression in his soldiers, however, in a short time they were adapted for medicinal use. For example, people with diseases that bring on rapid weight loss are often prescribed steroids. Seriously under-developed individuals who are looking to boost muscle growth are also prescribed these steroids. Furthermore, these steroids are often prescribed to individuals who have severe difficulty absorbing the nutrients that they need.
Anabolic Steroid Use
There are certain common disorders for which steroids are prescribed such as hormone deficiency in males. Individuals who cannot produce testosterone are administered synthetic testosterones in the form of steroids.
There’s one more legal usage of steroids – they are usually prescribed to patients recovering from surgery, especially young boys. There are many other conditions where steroids are used such as: bone pain accompanying osteoporosis, hereditary angioedema, and metastatic breast cancer in women, etc.
Despite their usefulness in varied conditions we cannot call them purely beneficial – there are many people who used steroids and had disastrous results.
Anabolic Steroids Side Effects
There are many instances when side effects had occurred with the use of steroids. Bodybuilders looking to build firm pectoral muscles ended up with gynecomastia, a condition in which men develop breasts. In some cases women suffered from an enlarged clitoris, deepened voice – all these conditions are irreversible. Some ill-effects of steroids are also seen in the nervous system. Use of steroids can cause mood swings, depression, violent behavior, and even psychoses.
The point to note is that some people abuse them and then suffer. However, those who use them in a safe environment, under a physician’s supervision, for them steroids are healthy.http://www.aartiinformatics.com/health/anabolic-steroids-are-they-healthy/http://www.aartiinformatics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Anabolic-Steroids-.jpghttp://www.aartiinformatics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Anabolic-Steroids--300x300.jpgHEALTHWhat are Anabolic Steroids Anabolic steroids are simply the synthetic versions of the naturally occurring male hormone testosterone.
