changing your partingBelieve it or not! You can take five years of your face just by changing your parting. Celebrity hair-stylist Andrew Barton says that the wrong parting can add years to your looks, while the right one can take years off. 45 year old Frances Childs, a contributor to Mail Online tried out his advice and says she was amazed by the results.

She says she already knew that the right color and cut can take years off a face, but till she heard what Andrew had to say, she hadn’t thought of changing her parting. She tried it and to her surprise found that the right parting took about five years off her face.

Earlier she couldn’t make up her mind about her parting, so she kept her hair swept up off her face in what she considered a slightly lopsided messy look, but as she tried on the different partings with the help of Pascal Lombardo, chief stylist at Andrew’s London Salon, there were revelations.

change your parting1. Center Parting

The first one she tried was the Center Parting.

How To Do It

Dampen the hair slightly as it is the easiest way to get a clean parting.

Using the sharp end of the comb, start at the hair line and guide it straight down your head, smoothing down the hair on both sides as you go.

She was quite disappointed as this look seemed to add about seven years to her looks.

zig zag parting

2. The Zig-zag

The Second one she tried was the Zig-Zag Parting.

How To Do It

This is slightly more difficult.

Start with the center parting. Then with the tail of your comb, lift a section of hair from about a third of an inch to the left of your parting and flick it over to the right, smoothing with your comb. Do the same with the right side next. Do this every inch or so till you reach the crown of your head. Refer to the photo.

This one was much better, she felt, as it seemed to take away at least two years.

Right Parting

3. Right Parting

The Third one she tried was the Right Parting.

How To Do It

Same as Center Parting except that the parting is about two inches off-center to the right.

This one was even better, as it seemed to take off at least five years. The hair seemed to have more volume and body. Her right eye is somewhat larger and wider than her left, and this parting emphasized that eye.

Left Parting

4. Left Parting

The Forth one she tried was the Left Parting.

How To Do It

This one started in line with the thin outer edge of her left eyebrow. The parting in line with the eyebrow flatters the face, according to Pascal. It starts at the hair line and goes straight back. With the hair on the right falling forward to cover part of the forehead. It starts lower than the right parting.

The Left Parting, while sculpted and chic, didn’t work for Frances, as it seemed to add five years to her face.

Slightly Off Center

5. Slightly Off Center

The Last one she tried was the Slight Off Center Parting.

How To Do It

This parting takes the inner edge of the right eyebrow as the guide. It starts in line with that and goes straight back. This one is easy to do.

The Slightly off Center Parting is Frances’ favorite parting. She feels it takes off as much as four years off her face, and also adds to her looks by softening her looks, and taking the focus away from the areas that are showing her age. Pascal says that with age the face starts to lose definition, but this parting draws attention to the eyes and cheekbones and away from the sagging part.

Now you know how to get your hair parting to help your looks. Frances’ conclusions may not be yours. Each face is different. So watch the video which shows you how to do the partings and try them all out. Choose the one you like best, and get ready to be awesome!
